Welcome to Actual Practical Yoga!
At Actual Practical Yoga we feel that Yoga is suitable for everyone, of any age or physical condition.
The non-aggressive nature of Yoga as exercise allows even people with physical issues to find it beneficial. There are many varieties of Yoga. Here is an abridged list of the most well-known schools of Yoga philosophy.
Hatha Yoga: Provides a method for people of any age to become invigorated, develop balance, coordination, and a sense of centeredness. This style is the most popular method of yoga practiced in the West.
Raja Yoga: This school incorporates exercise and breathing practice with meditation, and is based on directing the life force to bring the mind and emotions into balance.
Jnana Yoga: Jnana Yoga probes the nature of the Self through the question: Who am I ? This inquiry, leads towards clear Awareness by removing our attention from that which we are not.
Bhakti Yoga: Represents the path of self-transcending love or complete devotion to God or the Divine. Bhakti yoga is based on the doctrine " Love is God and God is Love."
Karma Yoga: As the term suggests, is based on the universal principle of cause and effect and embraces the philosophy that changing our thoughts and feelings creates the cause of more beneficial effects in our life.
Tantra Yoga: Tantra Yoga accepts desire as the prime motivating force of the universe, works on the feeling level, and aims to expand awareness in all states of consciousness.
Kashmir Shaivism: This is a non-dual philosophy. It recognizes the entire creation as the manifestation of a singular, divine consciousness or Shiva. It celebrates life and emphasizes discovery of the inner " Bliss."
Yoga is not a religion. It has no fixed set of beliefs. The heart of yoga’s philosophy is that mind, body and spirit function as one and cannot be clearly separated. Yoga is a system of techniques for relieving physical stress, relaxing the mind, connecting with spirit, in order to become more deeply self-aware.In other words: regular daily practice of yoga promotes a unified sense of well-being in mind, body and spirit.
